• The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), on behalf of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Afghanistan, invites qualified, experienced, and reputable road construction firms to submit Expressions of Interest (EOI) for participation in the upcoming tender for the Construction of Paved Roads with Roadside Drainages in Kabul and Herat Provinces, Afghanistan.Background:Herat Province in western Afghanistan was severely affected by powerful earthquakes in October 2023, impacting nine districts and an estimated 275,256 people. The disaster caused extensive damage to civilian infrastructure, including housing, health facilities, schools, and water networks, leaving many vulnerable families in urgent need of support.In response, the Improvement of Living Environment for Vulnerable People in Urban Areas project will be implemented in Kabul and Herat Provinces. The project focuses on upgrading community infrastructure using UN-Habitat-s Build Back Better (BBB) approach, emphasizing resilience, quality, and community participation. While the overall programme covers both Kabul and Herat, this specific Expression of Interest (EOI) is limited to works in Kabul City, specifically in Police Districts (PD) 21 and 22.Urban neighborhoods in Kabul face persistent challenges, including poor road conditions, inadequate drainage, and limited year-round access.
